Wedding cake alternatives

In lieu of a wedding cake, a dessert buffet at the reception is laden with sweets from a favorite local bakery. Extra seating cards are calligraphed with the names of the desserts; patterned paper bands and red and blue cotton ribbon trim the cake stands.

I found this on a forum and thought it was a cute idea. Each guest at the wedding made a mini pie (apple, blueberry, pecan etc) and brought it along to be arrange on the cake stand.

Fingerprint love hearts

I came across this at Sunsetcookies Esty shop and love it! Using the bride and grooms fingerprints to make love hearts! She's making them into invites but you could use them for anything!

Simple centrepieces

These tall lime & orchid centrepieces found on the Best Destination Weddings forum are splendid for a summery beach wedding. I think the ocean blue linens really round out the refreshing combination.

These are actually origami flowers! The instructions can be found on WedLog

Edible centrepieces

Kill two bird with one stone and have your favors incorporated into your centrepieces. At the end of the night, have the MC/DJ announce that the favors are there for the taking, or have little cards on the table letting everyone know to take one at the end of the night

Arrange some lollipops in the color theme of your wedding in a pretty vase

These glass cylinders can be customized in an unlimited number of ways with whatever decorative elements you choose. Fill them with M&Ms, smarties or other little lollies/chocolate and have little favor boxes for people to fill at the end of the night.
